The Outreach Committee organizes multiple Field Days in consultation with SPIN Girls, Minds Matter, and other local partners where students from the greater Seattle area come into our labs to meet faculty, researcher staff, and graduate and undergraduate students. Field days typically consist of 3-4 practical activities, including agar art, infectious disease demos, microscopy to visualize living host and microbial cells, and other engaging programming. We are excited to explain our jobs and describe each of our unique journeys to aspiring young scientists, and hope that these Field Days motivates students to pursue education in STEM fields and demystify the scientific enterprise, application processes, and what it's like to be a scientist.
