We are interested in the sociobiology of bacteria, with a focus on the opportunistic human pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa. My group studies type of a cell-cell signaling called quorum sensing. We are interested in the molecular biology of quorum sensing, how quorum sensing systems adapt in a variety of environments (including chronic infections), and in using quorum sensing as a model to study social behaviors, including cooperation and conflict, in populations.
