Monica S. Guo

The Guo Laboratory studies the relationship between genome organization and essential DNA processes such as replication, transcription, and DNA segregation. We seek to understand (1) how DNA structuring proteins regulate the large molecular machines involved in genome maintenance and (2) the organization and molecular biological effects of local DNA structure. We utilize a diverse range of techniques including genetics, biochemistry, single-molecule experiments and high-throughput sequencing to understand molecular behaviors and their genomic consequences.

Monica received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of California at San Francisco in the laboratory of Dr. Carol Gross. Her thesis focused on the regulation of outer membrane biosynthesis in Gram-negative bacteria. Her postdoctoral research was performed in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Laub at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology studying chromosome organization in bacteria and yeast.
